A DECENTRALISED RESOURCE OF FILM SCREENINGS & BENEFITS

Films of Resistance is a decentralised community film screening and fundraising resource that believes in the power of cinema to expose, inspire, reflect, frame and reframe; its ability to incite change and resistance on a local and global level.

With documentary and fiction films chosen for their artistic impact, the initiative aims to inspire deep thinking, understanding, compassion, and – ultimately – long-term, sustainable and active resistance to the genocide and oppression of the Palestinian people.

Whilst are primary focused has been Palestinian cinema, we are expanding to incorporate other films and visual storytelling from other peoples in countries that are also facing cultural (and other forms of) oppression and erasure. Although FoR organisers are free to choose which specific organisation, filmmaker, or group they are sending funds to, our preference is for funds raised to go Palestinian (and other) filmmaking in the short- and medium-term by: providing supporting equipment for on-distance tutorials of a film summer program for young people organised by Jenin Cultural Centre in the West Bank (followed by equipment support for grassroots organisations working with cinema education for young people in the occupied territories of Palestine); providing funds for productions in process in Palestine by Palestinian filmmakers (collated with the help of key cinema figures in Palestine as well as through applications); as well as direct filmmaker support upon request of the filmmakers. FoR is based on trust. Once organisers cover their screening expenses, we trust them to send the money to their chosen recipient.
